A New Way to Watch Christmas Programs

Usually, leading up to Christmas break, we have a number of programs to attend - piano recital, grade school program, band concerts, the church Christmas Eve program.  This year, of course, we didn't actually 'attend' any of these.  Instead, the teachers and leaders worked hard to provide video performances.  This meant we watched all the programs from the comfort of our living room!  We actually enjoyed this quite a bit, but we were mindful of the fact that this would have been Delaney's last elementary school Christmas program, and of course, the sound through video is just not the same as actually being there.  Nevertheless, we were grateful for the efforts of all who made the video performances possible!

Delaney's class had a graduation 'ceremony' from the LEAD program - an anti-drug curriculum they had been working through all semester.  Quinli, Claire, and Delaney were chosen to do a little presentation as part of the ceremony.  They worked hard on creating a game show with some facts they had learned throughout the fall.  I was able to watch this through Youtube on the last day of school before break.  They did a fantastic job!

She graduated!

The grade school Christmas program was choir-only.  Unfortunately, because of Covid, the 5th graders haven't had full-band yet.  Delaney is in the far left upper corner.
The High School band concert:
A first:  watching the Christmas Eve program while eating supper - no dressing up fancy or rushing to church to find good seats.  There were several individuals who put in hours of work putting a video together for the service.  We were so grateful that they made this work, and the Junior High Christmas story movie was exceptionally done!  While this was all ok for one year, I will look forward to seeing a full church in candlelight again next year (hopefully)!

Delaney was part of a chime choir - they learned and performed
the song in 45 minutes (far right)!
The 2 year olds showed up for "Away in a Manger"
The kids even had their sharing time.  Delaney submitted
a video of herself playing "Deck the Halls."

Choosing Trust Over Fear

I have struggled with writing about the shooting in Hesston - in fact, I wasn't going to post anything about it.  However, for the sake of memories, I decided I should at least touch on it.  It does deserve a place. It just hit so close to home - particularly since Doug was directly involved.  Honestly, I sometimes feel guilty for struggling with this tragedy.  I wasn't there, I didn't lose anyone close to me, and, although I know a few people who work there, I didn't know any of the victims.  And I get to move on with my life with little disruption.  I feel like I am on the outside looking in.   But I guess that's okay.  I didn't have to be directly involved for this to touch me.  My heart is sad for the families of those who died, for those who were injured, for those who witnessed it, for my brother-in-law who will probably replay images over and over, for my sister and my niece and nephew who might sometimes wonder "what if?", for th...

Girl Named Tom

Bethel College, Beautiful Night, Free Concert - need I say more? The Administration Building has never looked better! Delaney and her friend Elaina got to meet them afterwards - that's Delaney in the shadows! :)

Cousin Week

We declared last week "Cousin Week" and went to see Cale, Mace, and Ty play football.  We also watched Addi play volleyball.  Three of those events were on the same day!  I'm sure the girls feel like they have seen enough football to last a long time.  Little do they know - Caiden will be playing in 2 short years and they will have to sit through a lot more of those! We did enjoy watching each one - watching their strengths come through, watching them interact with teammates and coaches.  They are all growing up - just like our own three keep doing!  How does that happen?? Now, if only we could magically appear in California for the other cousins' sports endeavors! Addi - already an 8th grader! Ty, a 5th grader - far right Good teammate Mace, also a 5th grader - #6 Cale, an 8th grader.  #83 (white shirt)
