Spring Break Trip

Grammy and Papa are celebrating 50 years of marriage this coming summer on June 6, 2019.  To celebrate, they arranged for a trip to Colorado over spring break this last March.  With record snowfall in the Fairplay/Breckenridge areas this winter, we were in for an interesting trip.  Needless to say, we were thankful we decided to take the 4-wheel drive truck!

Our cabin was awesome, but we had a 20 min. drive up a mountain to get there.  With so much snowfall, we passed stuck, snowbound vehicles every time we went up or down!  Thankfully, that was never our story.

Even with some elevation sickness and tricky roads, we did enjoy plenty during our stay:  downtime, digging a sled run (thanks to Chelan) and sledding down it, exploring in waist-deep snow, a gondola ride in Breckenridge, first time skiing, and an anniversary celebration complete with a slideshow of over 500 pictures!

After a treacherous drive through the "great bomb cyclone of 2019," we made it to Denver and stopped for the night on our way home.  We were never so thankful to stop driving as we were that day!  We even had a pretty good time at the hotel with Grammy, Papa, and Dollie that day.

Thank you Mom and Dad for a memorable trip and for making it 50 years together - through all of life's ups and downs!

Surprise!

Well, I sure don't get surprised very often, but Saturday night was a huge surprise to me! I thought I was heading to Hesston for an AGCO Christmas Dinner with Chelan. He told me we needed to drop something off at Ben and Tina's house (my cousin), first. Okay, no big deal! While we were there, Ben said they were about ready to go out for dinner, did we want to come along? Surprisingly, Chelan thought about it and wanted to do it (clue #1 that something was up). I kept saying that we couldn't skip out on his dinner, but Chelan insisted that going to Wichita for dinner would be much more fun. I even said, "This seems like something you had planned!" However, I'm always up for dinner in Wichita, so I agreed, reluctantly!! We enjoyed a meal at Hangar 1 Steakhouse and I thought that was the end of it. But, on the way home, Chelan asked if we could go by the new arena since the inaugural concert was there that night -- Brad Paisley! I thought it would be f...

Spring Art

While Mrs. Schmidt was away on maternity leave during the spring, Mr. Novak (from Hesston) filled in for her. Since Cambry has her first 3 class periods in the art room, she got to know him very well and he mentioned several times how he appreciated Cambry's artistic style and way of thinking. He even let her paint a little bit on his own pieces! Cambry took several pieces to the WSL art festival in April. She came home with a first place finish in the graphic design category and an honorable mention in the computer design category. We are so thankful for the instruction she has received over the last 4 years in Goessel. Now, on to Hesston College with Professor Cross!

Fall Daze

The Fall Semester zoomed by as usual with lots of activities - mostly volleyball. However, there were some other events we enjoyed, too. Volleyball-wise, Delaney had a great first season! The team placed first at their home tournament, at the Olpe tournament, they were regional champions and sub-state runners-up (losing to Little River...again), and they finished 2nd in the league. Individually, Delaney made it onto the all-league first team and was a state stat leader (top 25) in serving! Our community continued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our ancestors coming to the area. We toured the site of the first immigrant houses while Delaney helped to park cars with the youth group. Delaney was a care bear with her friends for Halloween. She was also in her first musical: The Little Mermaid. She played the roles of a princess and a maid. Overall, she enjoyed it, despite lots of practices! We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and I still marvel at what can be accomplished at a ...
