Day 1

We're back to Day 1!  The first day of this school year came and went in a flash!  Pictures were a bit of an afterthought, but we got them accomplished.  You can see Caiden is "thrilled," Cambry is a little unsure, and Delaney is as excited as can be!

This will be a different year - 2 in the jr. high and only 1 at the grade school.  Getting Cambry going with this new routine has been an adjustment.  She had two-a-day vb practices leading up to the first day of school, so she was already tired before it even began!  After one week of practices, I can already see she is stronger - our main goal for her with volleyball.  The trick this year will be keeping her organized. As an 8th grader, Caiden has it all figured out, of course!  ;)  As far as football goes, it sounds like there is a quarterback battle brewing.  He would really like to play quarterback, but being one of the bigger guys out there, he may have to be on the line.  We'll see how he responds, either way!  Our little 2nd grader is just excited about her teacher and seeing her friends again - nothing very new for her.

While this is my 2nd year back to teaching, things still seem very new.  In fact, teaching 8th grade language arts is a new addition to my schedule.  It ups my total number of students to 75!  My grading process may need to be adjusted or that is all I'll be doing this school year!

So far so good after two days!  We'll see what the rest of this year brings!

2nd grade, peace, or "K"?

Surprise!

Well, I sure don't get surprised very often, but Saturday night was a huge surprise to me! I thought I was heading to Hesston for an AGCO Christmas Dinner with Chelan. He told me we needed to drop something off at Ben and Tina's house (my cousin), first. Okay, no big deal! While we were there, Ben said they were about ready to go out for dinner, did we want to come along? Surprisingly, Chelan thought about it and wanted to do it (clue #1 that something was up). I kept saying that we couldn't skip out on his dinner, but Chelan insisted that going to Wichita for dinner would be much more fun. I even said, "This seems like something you had planned!" However, I'm always up for dinner in Wichita, so I agreed, reluctantly!! We enjoyed a meal at Hangar 1 Steakhouse and I thought that was the end of it. But, on the way home, Chelan asked if we could go by the new arena since the inaugural concert was there that night -- Brad Paisley! I thought it would be f...

Spring Art

While Mrs. Schmidt was away on maternity leave during the spring, Mr. Novak (from Hesston) filled in for her. Since Cambry has her first 3 class periods in the art room, she got to know him very well and he mentioned several times how he appreciated Cambry's artistic style and way of thinking. He even let her paint a little bit on his own pieces! Cambry took several pieces to the WSL art festival in April. She came home with a first place finish in the graphic design category and an honorable mention in the computer design category. We are so thankful for the instruction she has received over the last 4 years in Goessel. Now, on to Hesston College with Professor Cross!

Fall Daze

The Fall Semester zoomed by as usual with lots of activities - mostly volleyball. However, there were some other events we enjoyed, too. Volleyball-wise, Delaney had a great first season! The team placed first at their home tournament, at the Olpe tournament, they were regional champions and sub-state runners-up (losing to Little River...again), and they finished 2nd in the league. Individually, Delaney made it onto the all-league first team and was a state stat leader (top 25) in serving! Our community continued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our ancestors coming to the area. We toured the site of the first immigrant houses while Delaney helped to park cars with the youth group. Delaney was a care bear with her friends for Halloween. She was also in her first musical: The Little Mermaid. She played the roles of a princess and a maid. Overall, she enjoyed it, despite lots of practices! We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and I still marvel at what can be accomplished at a ...
