What We've Been Up To

A combination of winter weather and sickness have kept us indoors this past week.  We were able to get out to Grandma and Grandpa's house and to my sister's house for Thanksgiving, but other than that, we've cooped ourselves up in the house.  So, what have we been doing?

We gave our lone puppy a bath so my niece could puppy-sit until the owners can pick him up next week:
Here is my niece - she's taking her job very seriously!
Cambry has been crafting.  She made a bunch of these little tops out of necklace pieces - and they work!
Then, she made a place mat . . .
The nativity sets have been found:
We decorated our Christmas tree. Caiden wasn't so into it, but he put up a few ornaments.  The girls, however, went through their boxes of ornaments and looked at every single one:

Chelan and I also got an invitation to a "Bake Sale."  When we went downstairs, we found a table all set up with a buffet line of cupcakes, doughnuts, cookies, and even a cake!

Cambry wasn't so happy because she ended up last in line and then was left with a lemon doughnut AND a lemon cupcake.  They take their playing pretty seriously!  :)

Surprise!

Well, I sure don't get surprised very often, but Saturday night was a huge surprise to me! I thought I was heading to Hesston for an AGCO Christmas Dinner with Chelan. He told me we needed to drop something off at Ben and Tina's house (my cousin), first. Okay, no big deal! While we were there, Ben said they were about ready to go out for dinner, did we want to come along? Surprisingly, Chelan thought about it and wanted to do it (clue #1 that something was up). I kept saying that we couldn't skip out on his dinner, but Chelan insisted that going to Wichita for dinner would be much more fun. I even said, "This seems like something you had planned!" However, I'm always up for dinner in Wichita, so I agreed, reluctantly!! We enjoyed a meal at Hangar 1 Steakhouse and I thought that was the end of it. But, on the way home, Chelan asked if we could go by the new arena since the inaugural concert was there that night -- Brad Paisley! I thought it would be f...

Spring Art

While Mrs. Schmidt was away on maternity leave during the spring, Mr. Novak (from Hesston) filled in for her. Since Cambry has her first 3 class periods in the art room, she got to know him very well and he mentioned several times how he appreciated Cambry's artistic style and way of thinking. He even let her paint a little bit on his own pieces! Cambry took several pieces to the WSL art festival in April. She came home with a first place finish in the graphic design category and an honorable mention in the computer design category. We are so thankful for the instruction she has received over the last 4 years in Goessel. Now, on to Hesston College with Professor Cross!

Fall Daze

The Fall Semester zoomed by as usual with lots of activities - mostly volleyball. However, there were some other events we enjoyed, too. Volleyball-wise, Delaney had a great first season! The team placed first at their home tournament, at the Olpe tournament, they were regional champions and sub-state runners-up (losing to Little River...again), and they finished 2nd in the league. Individually, Delaney made it onto the all-league first team and was a state stat leader (top 25) in serving! Our community continued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our ancestors coming to the area. We toured the site of the first immigrant houses while Delaney helped to park cars with the youth group. Delaney was a care bear with her friends for Halloween. She was also in her first musical: The Little Mermaid. She played the roles of a princess and a maid. Overall, she enjoyed it, despite lots of practices! We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and I still marvel at what can be accomplished at a ...
