Girls' Day

Cambry, Delaney, and I enjoyed a girls' day today in Wichita!  It's really been a girls' WEEK around here with Caiden gone and Chelan out in the fields.  But I had promised Cambry we would finally get her to Barnes and Noble to use a gift card from her birthday and to a pet store to get her some fish for her aquarium - also a birthday gift.  So, today was the day!

We had a lot of fun together!  Cambry is counting the days until we can do it again.

This was our itinerary:  For the most part, we stuck with it.
First Stop:  Barnes & Noble - their first time at this store!
This is Delaney's "Can I have TWO things?" look
She only got the stuffed animal, by the way!
Did you notice that they both chose things other than books?  We were in a BOOK STORE - I figured that's how it would go.  I, on the other hand, enjoyed looking at books.  I am always drawn to the bright covers and imaginative illustrations in the children's section!

Still looking at things other than books:
I decided this book would make sense for me - the introvert that I am!  :)
Next Stop - Target:
It was time for new flip-flops
After an early lunch at Freddy's, we went to see "Inside Out."  It was so, so good.  And of course, I cried several times.  I mean - thinking of our emotions as little people inside our heads?  What a fun idea!
And finally - FISH:  just 4 little goldfish for now.  Hopefully they survive for a little while!

Surprise!

Well, I sure don't get surprised very often, but Saturday night was a huge surprise to me! I thought I was heading to Hesston for an AGCO Christmas Dinner with Chelan. He told me we needed to drop something off at Ben and Tina's house (my cousin), first. Okay, no big deal! While we were there, Ben said they were about ready to go out for dinner, did we want to come along? Surprisingly, Chelan thought about it and wanted to do it (clue #1 that something was up). I kept saying that we couldn't skip out on his dinner, but Chelan insisted that going to Wichita for dinner would be much more fun. I even said, "This seems like something you had planned!" However, I'm always up for dinner in Wichita, so I agreed, reluctantly!! We enjoyed a meal at Hangar 1 Steakhouse and I thought that was the end of it. But, on the way home, Chelan asked if we could go by the new arena since the inaugural concert was there that night -- Brad Paisley! I thought it would be f...

Spring Art

While Mrs. Schmidt was away on maternity leave during the spring, Mr. Novak (from Hesston) filled in for her. Since Cambry has her first 3 class periods in the art room, she got to know him very well and he mentioned several times how he appreciated Cambry's artistic style and way of thinking. He even let her paint a little bit on his own pieces! Cambry took several pieces to the WSL art festival in April. She came home with a first place finish in the graphic design category and an honorable mention in the computer design category. We are so thankful for the instruction she has received over the last 4 years in Goessel. Now, on to Hesston College with Professor Cross!

Fall Daze

The Fall Semester zoomed by as usual with lots of activities - mostly volleyball. However, there were some other events we enjoyed, too. Volleyball-wise, Delaney had a great first season! The team placed first at their home tournament, at the Olpe tournament, they were regional champions and sub-state runners-up (losing to Little River...again), and they finished 2nd in the league. Individually, Delaney made it onto the all-league first team and was a state stat leader (top 25) in serving! Our community continued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our ancestors coming to the area. We toured the site of the first immigrant houses while Delaney helped to park cars with the youth group. Delaney was a care bear with her friends for Halloween. She was also in her first musical: The Little Mermaid. She played the roles of a princess and a maid. Overall, she enjoyed it, despite lots of practices! We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and I still marvel at what can be accomplished at a ...
