Saturday

A water leak in the basement led to this: (lots of digging)

which led to this: (the leaky pipe is found)
which led to this: (a whole kitchen full of dirty dishes - this isn't all of them)
I'll be honest - it was a little disturbing how flustered I got with the water turned off most of the day.  It shouldn't bother me.  A counter full of dirty dishes should not get me worked up.  But waiting all day to clean this up nearly drove me crazy!

I am fully aware that if this was my biggest worry of the day, I should consider myself blessed!  A day later, I can recognize that.  I have dishes that can get dirty, I have running water readily available (on most days), I have plenty of food to fill those dishes up.  What was such an annoyance to me yesterday would be considered a luxury to so many people around the world.

I will do better next time.  And I will remember to be thankful for my dirty dishes!

On a brighter note, Caiden and I went on a mother/son date Saturday evening (once everything was cleaned up)!  The Goessel High School was giving the play "The Election."  Caiden wanted to go, so he and I went together.  It was really funny!  I'm not sure how much Caiden really understood, but boy did he laugh a lot!

And while we were out, Chelan made these with the girls.  I asked him whether he ever thought he would be at home on a Saturday evening making turkeys with his daughters.  His answer was, with a chuckle, "No, I don't suppose I ever did!"  This is a pretty self-explanatory craft, but here is where I found the idea: ThriftyCraftyGirl.com

Surprise!

Well, I sure don't get surprised very often, but Saturday night was a huge surprise to me! I thought I was heading to Hesston for an AGCO Christmas Dinner with Chelan. He told me we needed to drop something off at Ben and Tina's house (my cousin), first. Okay, no big deal! While we were there, Ben said they were about ready to go out for dinner, did we want to come along? Surprisingly, Chelan thought about it and wanted to do it (clue #1 that something was up). I kept saying that we couldn't skip out on his dinner, but Chelan insisted that going to Wichita for dinner would be much more fun. I even said, "This seems like something you had planned!" However, I'm always up for dinner in Wichita, so I agreed, reluctantly!! We enjoyed a meal at Hangar 1 Steakhouse and I thought that was the end of it. But, on the way home, Chelan asked if we could go by the new arena since the inaugural concert was there that night -- Brad Paisley! I thought it would be f...

Spring Art

While Mrs. Schmidt was away on maternity leave during the spring, Mr. Novak (from Hesston) filled in for her. Since Cambry has her first 3 class periods in the art room, she got to know him very well and he mentioned several times how he appreciated Cambry's artistic style and way of thinking. He even let her paint a little bit on his own pieces! Cambry took several pieces to the WSL art festival in April. She came home with a first place finish in the graphic design category and an honorable mention in the computer design category. We are so thankful for the instruction she has received over the last 4 years in Goessel. Now, on to Hesston College with Professor Cross!

Fall Daze

The Fall Semester zoomed by as usual with lots of activities - mostly volleyball. However, there were some other events we enjoyed, too. Volleyball-wise, Delaney had a great first season! The team placed first at their home tournament, at the Olpe tournament, they were regional champions and sub-state runners-up (losing to Little River...again), and they finished 2nd in the league. Individually, Delaney made it onto the all-league first team and was a state stat leader (top 25) in serving! Our community continued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our ancestors coming to the area. We toured the site of the first immigrant houses while Delaney helped to park cars with the youth group. Delaney was a care bear with her friends for Halloween. She was also in her first musical: The Little Mermaid. She played the roles of a princess and a maid. Overall, she enjoyed it, despite lots of practices! We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and I still marvel at what can be accomplished at a ...
