Holy Sweet Potatoes!

Yesterday, I was working with watering the sweet potatoes when I noticed some of them poking out of the ground under all the vines.  I thought to myself, "It probably won't hurt to did up one plant to see if they are about ready."  So, I began pulling vines away and pulling out the potatoes.  They were HUGE!  It was such a fun discovery - even Cambry enjoyed it.  She really, really dislikes sweet potatoes.  I cut up one of them into fries for supper - one potato fed our entire family!!  I think I'll wait on digging up the rest.  I looked online today to see if they get sweeter while they grow underground.  I found out that they do, indeed.  Sometime in October ought to be just right!

This is my favorite way to enjoy sweet potatoes - tossed with olive
oil, salt, pepper, and a little garlic powder.  YUM!

Pre-Christmas Surprise

On Dec. 22, I woke up to Caiden not feeling well. In fact, he said he hadn't ever felt the kind of pain he was experiencing that morning. Reluctantly, I made an appointment. Long story, short - it was good he complained because he ended up having his appendix out that afternoon! It must have been at the very beginning stages and thankfully hadn't burst. So, we were in and out of the hospital by midnight that night. Maybe the worst part about the whole thing is that his wisdom teeth surgery had to be postponed since it was supposed to be the very next week. He'll go back to school minus an appendix, but still having his wisdom teeth until February 16! Pre-op Post-op

Spring Art

While Mrs. Schmidt was away on maternity leave during the spring, Mr. Novak (from Hesston) filled in for her. Since Cambry has her first 3 class periods in the art room, she got to know him very well and he mentioned several times how he appreciated Cambry's artistic style and way of thinking. He even let her paint a little bit on his own pieces! Cambry took several pieces to the WSL art festival in April. She came home with a first place finish in the graphic design category and an honorable mention in the computer design category. We are so thankful for the instruction she has received over the last 4 years in Goessel. Now, on to Hesston College with Professor Cross!

Off and Running!

A month into the school year and everyone seems to be clicking along . . . at least for now! We caught up with Cambry today, now in a room of her own for the very first time! She is enjoying her esports team, particularly making the social media posts and taking pictures for the team. She gets some Rocket League time in as well! And she has access to the art building pretty much when she wants it! Caiden is doing his thing at K-State and at athletic events again. And Delaney is trying to do every possible activity available in high school. Of course, her top priority is volleyball, and right now, her team is 2nd overall in 1A-1 and recently won their home tournament for the first time since 2017! And, Kenya is growing like a weed!
