Spring Has Sprung!

More so this year than any year before, I am very aware of the magical transformation that Spring brings to the earth.  It might be because of the extreme heat and lack of rain from last summer, but I am simply amazed at how much has returned, how green everything is, and how some things are already in full bloom (like the trees), but other plants have yet to reveal all that is hidden inside them.

Today, the girls and I went to The Garden Center in Hillsboro (again - it's becoming a weekly trip) to see if the onion sets were in.  They were!  Cambry also wanted to find a flower she could plant, so I decided to let her.  Normally, I don't think about flowers until April, but it's been so warm this year, I'm already in that mode!  She picked out an amazingly purple African Daisy.  We planted it in front of our fence - I really hope it makes it, because it's not a flower that I'm very familiar with!

Along with the trees and some flowers, the dandelions are in full bloom, too!  I made a dandelion crown for Cambry - she thought it was pretty cool, but it didn't stay on her head very long.  It brought back memories of springtime recess at school, though.  It was a lovely day to share with my girls!
These hostas are on our deck - they've been so fun to watch poke
through the soil and literally unfold their leaves!

Some more plants ready to unfold in back of our house

The African Daisy Cambry picked out - it looks fake!

Surprise!

Well, I sure don't get surprised very often, but Saturday night was a huge surprise to me! I thought I was heading to Hesston for an AGCO Christmas Dinner with Chelan. He told me we needed to drop something off at Ben and Tina's house (my cousin), first. Okay, no big deal! While we were there, Ben said they were about ready to go out for dinner, did we want to come along? Surprisingly, Chelan thought about it and wanted to do it (clue #1 that something was up). I kept saying that we couldn't skip out on his dinner, but Chelan insisted that going to Wichita for dinner would be much more fun. I even said, "This seems like something you had planned!" However, I'm always up for dinner in Wichita, so I agreed, reluctantly!! We enjoyed a meal at Hangar 1 Steakhouse and I thought that was the end of it. But, on the way home, Chelan asked if we could go by the new arena since the inaugural concert was there that night -- Brad Paisley! I thought it would be f...

Spring Art

While Mrs. Schmidt was away on maternity leave during the spring, Mr. Novak (from Hesston) filled in for her. Since Cambry has her first 3 class periods in the art room, she got to know him very well and he mentioned several times how he appreciated Cambry's artistic style and way of thinking. He even let her paint a little bit on his own pieces! Cambry took several pieces to the WSL art festival in April. She came home with a first place finish in the graphic design category and an honorable mention in the computer design category. We are so thankful for the instruction she has received over the last 4 years in Goessel. Now, on to Hesston College with Professor Cross!

Fall Daze

The Fall Semester zoomed by as usual with lots of activities - mostly volleyball. However, there were some other events we enjoyed, too. Volleyball-wise, Delaney had a great first season! The team placed first at their home tournament, at the Olpe tournament, they were regional champions and sub-state runners-up (losing to Little River...again), and they finished 2nd in the league. Individually, Delaney made it onto the all-league first team and was a state stat leader (top 25) in serving! Our community continued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our ancestors coming to the area. We toured the site of the first immigrant houses while Delaney helped to park cars with the youth group. Delaney was a care bear with her friends for Halloween. She was also in her first musical: The Little Mermaid. She played the roles of a princess and a maid. Overall, she enjoyed it, despite lots of practices! We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and I still marvel at what can be accomplished at a ...
