C/T Scan

Today was C/T Scan day for Delaney (and us).  I knew it shouldn't be a big deal, but there's something about going into a very large hospital that makes things seem like a big deal!  Overall, it was a pretty smooth afternoon.

After she was admitted, we headed up to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit - sounds scary, but I guess that's just where they start these kinds of things.  We saw a small baby hooked up to all kinds of things next door to Delaney's room, and I was immediately thankful for Delaney's good health (despite her neck).  I just can't imagine what it would be like to have a sick child in the PICU.

We got there at 11:00 and her C/T Scan was at 1:00.  The plan had been to sedate her, but the nurses had said they would really try to do it without putting her to sleep.  That was good news - I didn't see how that was actually going to work, but I was glad they were going to try!

I think the hardest part of the day was keeping her from eating and drinking that whole time.  I had to wake her up early because she couldn't have anything to eat or drink after 7 a.m.  Vanessa so kindly brought Freddy's burgers for Chelan and me.  We had to sneak out and eat them in the waiting room so Delaney wouldn't see!

An IV went in around noon - she didn't like that.  She didn't feel any pain thanks to a numbing agent, but she doesn't like being messed with.  There was a great nurse in there distracting her with bubbles, and Chelan and I got to be right there.  It didn't take her too long to get over it.

C/T Scan went fine - picture lots of crying, screaming, and a pouty bottom lip, but we all were right there to help her (Chelan, me, and 2 nurses) and she stayed still enough!  We credit a flashing, spinny toy for keeping her still through the scan.

Results?  Who knows!  I don't know if we'll ever get those results - probably for the doctor mostly!

So, step number 1 in finding answers is out of the way!  We can only hope that step number 2 will go as well as our day went today!

It is so comforting to know we are surrounded by a circle of prayer!  Thank you so much!

Surprise!

Well, I sure don't get surprised very often, but Saturday night was a huge surprise to me! I thought I was heading to Hesston for an AGCO Christmas Dinner with Chelan. He told me we needed to drop something off at Ben and Tina's house (my cousin), first. Okay, no big deal! Choosing Trust Over Fear

I have struggled with writing about the shooting in Hesston - in fact, I wasn't going to post anything about it.  However, for the sake of memories, I decided I should at least touch on it.  It does deserve a place. It just hit so close to home - particularly since Doug was directly involved.  Honestly, I sometimes feel guilty for struggling with this tragedy.  I wasn't there, I didn't lose anyone close to me, and, although I know a few people who work there, I didn't know any of the victims.  And I get to move on with my life with little disruption.  I feel like I am on the outside looking in.   But I guess that's okay.  I didn't have to be directly involved for this to touch me.  My heart is sad for the families of those who died, for those who were injured, for those who witnessed it, for my brother-in-law who will probably replay images over and over, for my sister and my niece and nephew who might sometimes wonder "what if?", for th...

Season: Winter

Here we are, almost at the end of the basketball season, and I haven't updated a thing since fall! We have enjoyed watching Delaney play this year, and it was a big surprise to see her starting the first game of the season. . . and every game after! Their season has had some ups and downs, but one highlight for sure was earning 3rd place at the mid-season Centre tournament! Keep up the good work, Delaney! During Christmas break, I took very few pictures, but we enjoyed a very low-key break at home. At the end of it, we had a giant ice/snowstorm that actually delayed us going back to school for a couple of days! It was Kenya's first snow and it was sure fun to watch her figure it all out! In January, Delaney got her first piece of actual mail from a Division 2 school, inviting her to a volleyball showcase. This felt like a pretty big deal!
