Chelan and I have told each other on numerous occasions that we just haven't felt "Christmasy" this year. We've had so much on our minds that Christmas seemed to take a back seat. Last night, Chelan told me that he may not have felt Christmasy, but he sure had seen and felt God on a number of occasions over the past 3 days. I agreed, saying, "There were a lot of little blessings throughout this ordeal." Here is our list:
1. Delaney remained calm throughout every part of her procedure and return trip to the hospital (excluding the IV going in). All the staff kept commenting on what a great job she was doing and amazed at how calm she was. She even fell asleep during an ultrasound!
2. The pathology reports were negative for lymphoma.
3. We actually received the pathology reports on our 2nd trip to the hospital from the ENT on-call. Otherwise, we wouldn't have known until next week!
4. Dr. Harris actually called back when we were questioning Delaney's neck - I thought I had called too late. I'm not sure what we would have ended up doing if he hadn't gotten back with us.
5. Delaney got a fever while we were at the hospital. This may not seem like a blessing, but I was so relieved that it didn't happen at home late at night!
6. The doctor didn't have to go back in and do more surgery on Delaney.
7. Grandmas and Grandpas were so willing to help with whatever we needed - including keeping the kids overnight, coming to pick us up at Conklin Cars after our van overheated on the interstate, letting us borrow a car since ours is in the shop, and even missing the Christmas Eve program at church to stay with Delaney.
8. Good doctors, residents, and nurses. One of our nurses on the 2nd stay was our nurse the first time. That helped a lot because she knew our situation!
9. Dr. Patron (our regular pediatrician) was on-call last night. Why is this a blessing? Because after the Christmas Eve program, Cambry wouldn't stop crying. Her ear was hurting (we've never seen her cry over this). We had been meaning to take her in last week, but then all this other stuff happened. Anyway, I called our doctor and he called in a prescription for her without us needing to take her in. I never like talking to a strange doctor on-call, so it was comforting to know the voice at the other end.
10. Greenhaw Pharmacy has a pharmacist on-call -- one of those perks you get with a hometown pharmacy. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been starting any antibiotics until Monday or even Tuesday. And, the pharmacist had just put her girls to bed, so she didn't miss any part of her evening with them.
Some people might say we had good luck. I'll be the first to say that God had a hand in all of these situations. There were so many people praying for Delaney and for us that it would be hard to say anything different. Prayer does make a difference and during these last 3 days, we have felt that deeply - more so maybe than at any other time in our lives. Thank you, God!
