Thoughts at the End of Summer

We've had nearly 12 weeks of summer vacation, and, if I'm being honest, I have to say, "That's long enough!"   Here are my thoughts at the end of summer (they're pretty random):

1.  The kids have to get on the bus at 7:02 a.m.  That's when we were getting up last year!

2.  Cambry is going to have get used to wearing shirts again - she's pretty good at just throwing some shorts on!

3.  We willl; go through a LOT LESS toilet paper once school begins!  It seems like I am always buying toilet paper.

4.  I'll miss the flexible evenings when we didn't have to worry about bedtimes, but I will embrace the structure and consistency that school brings!

5.  I'll also miss reading "Little House on the Prairie" books out loud.  We got through:  On the Banks of Plum Creek, By the Shores of Silver Lake, The Long Winter, and Little Town on the Prairie this summer.

6.  Cambry says she's excited about Kindergarten - I'm curious to see how she'll do when the bus actually pulls up to our driveway.  I hope she and the teacher get along.  Cambry tends to have her own ideas (and her own pace) about how to do things, and that might not always work with Mrs. Janzen.

7.  I'm subbing on the 2nd day of school - really!  I'm subbing in 1st grade.  I'm a little nervous because I didn't sub at all last year.  I hope it goes okay!

8.  After 12 weeks of summer, today, for the first time, Caiden and Cambry went outside on their own and did something together.  No one came back to the house crying, and I got the floors cleaned in peace.  It took 12 weeks for that to happen!

    Our kiddos don't get picked up until 7:24 this year!!!! (we were 7:05 last year)

Surprise!

Well, I sure don't get surprised very often, but Saturday night was a huge surprise to me! I thought I was heading to Hesston for an AGCO Christmas Dinner with Chelan. He told me we needed to drop something off at Ben and Tina's house (my cousin), first. Okay, no big deal! While we were there, Ben said they were about ready to go out for dinner, did we want to come along? Surprisingly, Chelan thought about it and wanted to do it (clue #1 that something was up). I kept saying that we couldn't skip out on his dinner, but Chelan insisted that going to Wichita for dinner would be much more fun. I even said, "This seems like something you had planned!" However, I'm always up for dinner in Wichita, so I agreed, reluctantly!! We enjoyed a meal at Hangar 1 Steakhouse and I thought that was the end of it. Choosing Trust Over Fear

I have struggled with writing about the shooting in Hesston - in fact, I wasn't going to post anything about it.  However, for the sake of memories, I decided I should at least touch on it.  It does deserve a place. It just hit so close to home - particularly since Doug was directly involved.  Honestly, I sometimes feel guilty for struggling with this tragedy.  I wasn't there, I didn't lose anyone close to me, and, although I know a few people who work there, I didn't know any of the victims.  And I get to move on with my life with little disruption.  I feel like I am on the outside looking in.   But I guess that's okay.  I didn't have to be directly involved for this to touch me.  My heart is sad for the families of those who died, for those who were injured, for those who witnessed it, for my brother-in-law who will probably replay images over and over, for my sister and my niece and nephew who might sometimes wonder "what if?", for th...

Season: Winter

Here we are, almost at the end of the basketball season, and I haven't updated a thing since fall! We have enjoyed watching Delaney play this year, and it was a big surprise to see her starting the first game of the season. . . and every game after! Their season has had some ups and downs, but one highlight for sure was earning 3rd place at the mid-season Centre tournament! Keep up the good work, Delaney! During Christmas break, I took very few pictures, but we enjoyed a very low-key break at home. At the end of it, we had a giant ice/snowstorm that actually delayed us going back to school for a couple of days! It was Kenya's first snow and it was sure fun to watch her figure it all out! In January, Delaney got her first piece of actual mail from a Division 2 school, inviting her to a volleyball showcase. This felt like a pretty big deal!
