Sight-Seeing Day #1

Since we didn't have the kids along, we took advantage of some museums that we would not have gone to with them.  Our first stop?  The 6th Floor Museum in Dallas.  This is the building from which President John F. Kennedy was shot.  Chelan and I both love American history, so this museum was quite a treat.  It was absolutely buzzing with activity!  And, on the day we visited, the closest eyewitnesses to the shooting were there to tell their story and answer questions.  Their story was pretty interesting.  They were each only 22 years old and they had taken their 2 boys to see the President's motorcade - they were standing near the "grassy knoll" when he was shot - almost right in front of them.  They were on TV within 15 minutes of the shooting to share their account.  Fascinating!
"The Window" is on the far right, 6th floor - the square window.  JFK was
shot on the road past the tree on the left.
"X" marks the spot
After the museum, we walked around the Historic West End.  I loved these old advertisements painted on the sides of the brick buildings - such character!

I also enjoyed these giant onion rings for lunch at Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse!

Our next stop was Pioneer Plaza - a thundering longhorn stampede awaited us - these sculptures were pretty cool!

We could have done so much more in Dallas, but we decided to drive out to Arlington to see Cowboys Stadium.  In a word, it is GIGANTIC - 3 million square feet to be exact.  I'm not sure such a building is justified.  I kept thinking to myself what a waste of money it all is.  So much good could be done with all the money it took to build it.  But anyway, we took a self-guided tour!  And here's a bonus - Chelan actually kicked a 15 yard field goal and made it!  Did I get a picture?  Nope - I didn't get down there in time!

They were showing highlights from last year's Cotton Bowl on the
enormous screen - fun to watch!  I think that's Collin Klein
falling in for a touchdown.

Locker Room
Cheerleader locker room - looks like a beauty salon
We ended the day with a movie in our hotel room - because that's just how adventurous we are!  No line dancing, bull riding, or wine tasting for us!  It was so nice to be able to relax for an entire evening.  I kept reminding myself that I was not giving anyone a bath, putting anyone to bed, changing any diapers, or fixing food for anyone.

Surprise!

Well, I sure don't get surprised very often, but Saturday night was a huge surprise to me! I thought I was heading to Hesston for an AGCO Christmas Dinner with Chelan. He told me we needed to drop something off at Ben and Tina's house (my cousin), first. Okay, no big deal! While we were there, Ben said they were about ready to go out for dinner, did we want to come along? Surprisingly, Chelan thought about it and wanted to do it (clue #1 that something was up). I kept saying that we couldn't skip out on his dinner, but Chelan insisted that going to Wichita for dinner would be much more fun. I even said, "This seems like something you had planned!" However, I'm always up for dinner in Wichita, so I agreed, reluctantly!! We enjoyed a meal at Hangar 1 Steakhouse and I thought that was the end of it. But, on the way home, Chelan asked if we could go by the new arena since the inaugural concert was there that night -- Brad Paisley! I thought it would be f...

Pre-Christmas Surprise

On Dec. 22, I woke up to Caiden not feeling well. In fact, he said he hadn't ever felt the kind of pain he was experiencing that morning. Reluctantly, I made an appointment. Long story, short - it was good he complained because he ended up having his appendix out that afternoon! It must have been at the very beginning stages and thankfully hadn't burst. So, we were in and out of the hospital by midnight that night. Maybe the worst part about the whole thing is that his wisdom teeth surgery had to be postponed since it was supposed to be the very next week. He'll go back to school minus an appendix, but still having his wisdom teeth until February 16! Pre-op Post-op

Spring Art

While Mrs. Schmidt was away on maternity leave during the spring, Mr. Novak (from Hesston) filled in for her. Since Cambry has her first 3 class periods in the art room, she got to know him very well and he mentioned several times how he appreciated Cambry's artistic style and way of thinking. He even let her paint a little bit on his own pieces! Cambry took several pieces to the WSL art festival in April. She came home with a first place finish in the graphic design category and an honorable mention in the computer design category. We are so thankful for the instruction she has received over the last 4 years in Goessel. Now, on to Hesston College with Professor Cross!
